voice activation?
- Pros: This unit finds satellites quickly. It also recalculates quickly.
- Cons: the voice activation component has a long way to go. It is frustrating trying to get it to recognize your commands. It hears what it wants to hear. I usually end up turning it off.
Using the FM transmitter for your commands is also sometimes useless. It seems every time I choose an FM frequency that is empty, down the road some it starts picking up a station. Ugghhhhh!
- Other Thoughts: This is my second garmin and I don't regret this purchase. I just think I overspent for add-ons that have proved useless to me.
No Bluetooth!
- Pros: Garmin's units are the best, and this is no exception.
Newegg.ca's service was exemplary: I ordered on a Friday, and the units were delivered to my rural location on the following Thursday---and this was with free shipping.
- Cons: For some bizarre reason, Bluetooth is not included in this model. I didn't check for it before buying because lower models, like my 760, have it. Other than profiteering, why would Garmin have left this capability out?
I was hoping that this unit would be the centre of a hand-free automobile system, combining cell phone, navigation, and an audio source, all under voice control. Without Bluetooth, I now need a separate approach for hands-free, voice command cell phone usage.
- Other Thoughts: I have been a huge Garmin fan for 15 years, and this is the fourth Garmin GPS I've purchased. In fact, I bought two of these. Has Garmin lost its way with the plethora of new models and weird feature combinations? It smells a bit like the option packages for cars, where they try to force and/or trick you into buying more. This makes me wonder whether I should maintain my loyalty!
this rocks
- Pros: looks nice, gets you to where you need to go and easy to use
- Cons: not every road is in the map pack. it will have to drive to highlighted route before it starts giving directions. The mount that it comes with is for a windshield but those are illegal in MN. You will want to buy the other mount for $30 that newegg sells.
- Other Thoughts: garmin is a leader and GPS systems and this model has a grate mix of features for the price.
